Day 21 - Have a fantastic day!
'In the social media world the pressure on people never to be sad or worried is palpable. Even looking less than aglow is at odds with the internet image we are expected to project 24/7 - and if we don't look quite so beautiful, there is always a photographic filter to help conceal the truth
Rather than fixate on the "perfect" people who post pictures of every last (celebrity) event ...,you would do better to develop a more realistic attitude to what is being shown'
(Louise Chunn, Sunday Times News Review 23/4/2014)
Let's celebrate our own loveliness today, no matter what you are doing, and have a fantastic day!!

Day 4 - It's Saturday - Family Time....
With today's busy lifestyles, many
parents and grandparents want to spend more "quality" time with their
children or grandchildren. But what is quality time? "Quality time"
is time spent doing an activity that is meaningful to the parent and child. It
is time when family members really get to know each other. Quality time is
spent focusing attention on the other person and sharing thoughts and feelings.
Spending time with our children can be fun and educational for us and for them. Much of the child's basic learning takes place in the many informal situations that occur daily in the life of the family. These informal occasions for learning include all the times the family members are together doing ordinary things, such as getting dressed, talking over the day’s happenings, dealing with problems, interacting with people outside the family, taking baths, eating, and so forth.

Children need to know they are loved unconditionally. The cry of children today
is, "Love me for who I am, not what I do. Love me for being who I am, even
when I am naughty, not winning, placing, and showing". That does not mean
that you have to approve of everything the child does. What it does mean
however, is that even though the child misbehaves, we still love and accept the
child and provide support.
The activity does need not be costly, but rather one that satisfies both the parent and the child.
Children learn about families from the time they spend in their own families. They learn about birth and caring for another person when a new baby comes home from the hospital. They learn about loss when a family member dies. They learn about marriage and relationships by watching their mothers and fathers interact. By living in a family, children learn to share, how to stand up for their own rights, and how to love another person.
We help children develop positive self-esteem by communicating the value we feel for the child. Words of encouragement and love help provide children with the courage to try new things without worrying excessively about not being able to do them.
Children learn about trust at home from their parents. They learn trust from being trusted. When we trust the child to accomplish a task on his or her own, the child learns that he or she can do the task.
To help our children grow and mature well, we should help children learn about life and living in today's society. The time a parent spends with a child is important. But it can be scary as well. Unstructured time together when the TV is off can be a bit of a shock.

Day 3 - A Good Night's Sleep Makes All The Difference
Here are some great pointers to review and improve your sleep habits:
1. Wind down gently in the evening and try not to have too much screen time right before bed. A bath or a good book are great winding down techniques.
2. Your bedroom is your sanctuary. Keep electronic equipment out of the bedroom. That includes TV's, computers, iPads and mobile phones - all of these interfere with our natural sleep rhythms.
3. Darkness is crucial for releasing the right sleep hormones. Try investing in blackout curtains.
4. Sleep in a cool room. An overheated body is a restless one.
5. Avoid eating big heavy meals late into the evening to give your digestive system a rest at night. Similarly, don't go to bed hungry as low blood sugar levels will cause poor sleep.
Poor sleep is one of the first signs of the body manifesting unwellness and is not to be ignored.
If you feel your sleep is not as good as it could
be then some simple dietary adjustments and naturopathic techniques could make
a world of difference. Here are the details of how you can work with me:

Day 2 - Grab Your Coat.......
Heading out today????
Even if it's dull and wet, don't let the weather dampen your
spirits. A brisk walk in the fresh air does wonders for your mood.
So grab your coat and head out....walking the dog, picking up the children from school or just a 15 minute blast at lunch time to get you away from your desk and computer.

There's no excuse to be cold - Anoraks are back!
Make yours bright, wear with leggings, jeggings or skinny jeans and trainers / converse / pumps or Uggs if it's cold.

Day 1 - Where are YOU on your "to-do" list?

Who is at the top of your priority list? Your
children, husband, partner, pets, work, friends?
How many times have you not done something because
"it's only for me"?
Would you like to have "ME" at the top of
that list?
Over the next 40 days, that's where you are going
to learn to put yourself, just by making little changes to your every day
life.....
It takes 21 days for an action to become a habit -
we've got 40 days.....are you up for the challenge?
I found this article on-line - it sums up HOW to
make those changes and is a great summary of WHY we should put ourselves first
:-)
Put Yourself First
Reach Other Goals by Starting With
Your Self
You’re a parent, school volunteer, Little League
coach, and trusted assistant to your boss. You’ve been up since 6 a.m., made
breakfast, packed lunches, cleaned the house, chauffeured the neighbourhood
kids, helped with homework, read bedtime stories and finished extra work
from the office. It’s 11:30.You’re exhausted. And, in about six-and-a-half
hours you’ll begin the whole 24-hour cycle…again.
If you find yourself saying ‘Stop the merry-go-round, I want to get off!’ you’re not alone. Most of us—especially women, but men too (hey, there are reasons that men die younger than women)—have at some time found ourselves at the bottom of the heap when it comes to taking care of our needs. The problem with that is that if we don’t take care of ourselves, sooner or later we won’t be of much use to anyone else—or to ourselves. Just as the airline attendant tells you to put on your own oxygen mask in an emergency before helping a child with theirs, you must take care of your own basic needs before you can attend to the needs of others. What’s more, being busy is not necessarily the same as being productive with meaningful activity. (Do the workaholics you know really accomplish that much more in proportion to the time they invest?) If “putting yourself first” (a common admonition) sounds too selfish or too hard, try something simpler: put yourself on an equal footing with those you love and tend to. Do you insist that they get enough sleep? Start making that a priority for yourself too. Do you give them time for fun and socializing with friends? Then you do the same! Remember Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs: human beings must meet their basic needs before they can move on to higher-level goals. Since most of us already know that we should take care of ourselves—but often have trouble figuring out how to do it, here are some guidelines for getting there:
· 1)
Preserve your physical health with adequate sleep, exercise, and nutrition.
· 2)
Value your emotional health as much as the physical, with a support system of
friends and a willingness to laugh—especially at yourself.
· 3)
Schedule fun activities on a regular basis—it’s just as important to plan
pleasure as it is to plan work.
· 4)
Identify “busy behaviours” (or people) that drain your time and energy but
aren’t really important, then dump ‘em, or at least minimize their hold on
you.
· 5)
Kill two birds with one stone, combining family time with exercise, for example,
which benefits everyone involved.
· 6)
Try to look at the problems in your life with new eyes to find solutions. If
you’re a new mum, for instance, see if you can trade childcare with another
new mum to get some time for yourself.
· 7)
Learn to say “No!” Your “yes” is valuable and should not be automatic.
Instead, reserve it for the things that are most important to you.
· 8)
Don’t try to change every problem area in your life all at once. Start with
one or two items, then expand as you get things under control.
·
· Your
life should be like a bank account, balancing out on a regular basis so that
you always have assets to draw upon. By making even small deposits—taking
care of yourself with a 10-minute walk or a healthy nutritious
meal—you’ll be amazed at the interest you’ll reap.
